Experts recommend drinking between 8-11 glasses of water a day to remain hydrated. This is particularly important when you’ve been working out or it’s a hot day.
Athletes can lose as much as 6–10% of their water weight via sweat, which needs to be replaced otherwise exercise will become more difficult – both physically and mentally. This can ultimately result in your overall performance suffering.
Several studies suggest that being dehydrated can impair mood, memory, and brain performance – all of which makes it so much more difficult to get up off the couch and go for that run you promised yourself.
Other studies have also found that adults who increase their water intake by just 1%, ended up consuming fewer calories as they felt fuller and less likely to head to the snack cupboard.
Drinking enough water can promote digestive harmony – keeping your bowels moving regularly and helping break down soluble fibre, which will ultimately increase the amount of nutrition you can gain from each plate of food.
Keeping your joints lubricated can reduce impact friction during your workouts, making it less likely for a potential injury to occur as well as fewer aches and pains post-workout.
